Togo energy sector shake-up as ceet director general dismissed
The leadership of the Togo’s national power utility is undergoing a significant shift. Débo-K’mba Barandao, the Director-General of the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET), has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.
While no formal announcement has been made just yet, the decision comes at a time when the CEET continues to grapple with persistent challenges in electricity supply and service quality across the country. Since assuming office in March 2022, Barandao had spearheaded multiple restructuring initiatives aimed at improving both organisational efficiency and operational performance.
a tenure defined by change amid sectoral hurdles
The CEET, a cornerstone of Togo’s energy infrastructure, has long faced systemic issues, including frequent power outages and the pressing need for infrastructure upgrades. Barandao’s tenure was characterised by bold reforms, yet the underlying pressures on the national grid remained unresolved, highlighting the complexity of modernising the sector.
what’s next for the ceet?
With Barandao’s departure, the search for a new Director-General is underway. Authorities have indicated that a successor will be appointed in the coming days to ensure seamless continuity in operations. Until then, temporary arrangements are expected to bridge the transition period.
