Tchad joins un climate resilience fund at Baku urban forum

The Republic of Chad has secured a major milestone in climate action by becoming the 11th eligible country for the Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations (BCRUP) program under the UN Green Climate Fund during its participation in the Baku Urban Forum in Azerbaijan.

This international acknowledgment highlights Chad’s commitment to addressing critical urban challenges, including devastating floods, mass displacement, and the escalating impacts of climate change on its cities and towns.

A high-level delegation led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata engaged in productive discussions with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The talks centered on urban resilience strategies and potential collaboration pathways. Following the exchange, an initial project was approved for funding ranging from $900,000 to $1 million, paving the way for additional support from UN-Habitat in the coming months.
