Sié Frédéric Kambou recognized for health reporting excellence at Burkina Faso’s Galian awards

Ouagadougou recently hosted the 29th annual Prix Galian ceremony on Friday, June 19, 2026, an event that consistently shines a spotlight on journalistic excellence across Burkina Faso. Among the distinguished recipients at this prestigious competition was Sié Frédéric Kambou, a dedicated journalist from Burkina 24, who earned the Special Prize from the Ministry of Health in the Online Press category. 

This significant accolade recognized his compelling report, « Au Burkina Faso, la santé sort de l’ombre du privilège ! », originally published on December 26, 2025. Through meticulous fieldwork, Kambou’s report brought to light essential reforms within the nation’s health sector. These pivotal changes include a marked reduction in the cost of various medical examinations and the elimination of upfront deposits for dialysis sessions in public health institutions, directly impacting society Africa.

Visibly moved upon accepting his trophy, Sié Frédéric Kambou expressed his desire to share this honor with all his colleagues at Burkina 24.

“I am incredibly emotional to receive this award,” he stated, his voice filled with gratitude. “I dedicate it to the entire editorial team of Burkina 24 and to our editors-in-chief, who constantly inspire us. Achieving this was not easy, but thankfully, I succeeded. This is my first award, and I am truly delighted.
