A shared vision for Senegal’s transformation

In his remarks, Al Aminou Lô reflected on the professional relationship he had built with Sonko, which began in April 2024 when the outgoing leader entrusted him with responsibilities under the National Transformation Agenda. « He called on me without knowing me. I came, and he placed his trust in me, » the new Prime Minister recalled, emphasizing the foundation of their collaboration.

Al Aminou Lô also recounted his involvement in key executive initiatives, stating, « The President later invited me to join the team tasked with implementing the National Transformation Agenda under his leadership. The results have been widely recognized. » He highlighted Sonko’s role in fostering coordination between the Primature and the Presidency, noting that Sonko had urged him to maintain that bridge during the transition.

Challenges ahead and the value of experience

The new Prime Minister shared that Sonko had prepared him for the difficulties of the role, saying, « Just this past Tuesday, he warned me it would be extremely challenging. » Despite the challenges, Al Aminou Lô expressed his commitment to continuing the work begun by his predecessor, relying on Sonko’s guidance whenever necessary. « I will continue to seek his advice and draw on his experience, » he stated.

During the ceremony, Sonko’s support for his successor was evident, with Al Aminou Lô acknowledging, « It is an honor to take over from someone who has dedicated so much to building this nation. His generosity and commitment have been invaluable. » The handover was not only a formal transition but also a moment of mutual respect and recognition of the critical work ahead for Senegal’s government.
