Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the country’s new Prime Minister, as announced in a televised decree on May 25. Lô, a former senior official at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), brings extensive experience in economic policy and governance to the role.

Prior to this appointment, Lô served as Secretary-General in the first government formed by President Faye, who took office in April 2024. His deep understanding of fiscal and monetary policies, honed during his tenure at the BCEAO, positions him as a key figure in shaping Senegal’s economic future.

The announcement follows the dismissal of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, marking a significant shift in the country’s leadership amid ongoing political dynamics. Lô’s appointment signals a renewed focus on economic stability and strategic reforms in Senegal’s governance framework.
