Ousmane Sonko’s political funds management raises eyebrows in Senegal

Ousmane Sonko political funds controversy

The revelation by Energy Minister Abdourahmane Diouf about Ousmane Sonko’s political funds management has sent shockwaves through Senegal’s political landscape, raising serious questions about transparency.

The ongoing verbal sparring between the Pastef party and the Kiiraay movement shows no signs of abating. Without a neutral referee to call a halt to the exchanges, both sides continue to trade accusations, each presenting what they claim to be undisputable facts about the other’s conduct.

In the latest development, Abdourahmane Diouf, during an appearance on a popular RS1 program hosted by Migui Marième Ndiaye, disclosed details about the 1.77 billion CFA francs in secret funds that Ousmane Sonko held during his time as Prime Minister. But Diouf didn’t stop at that bombshell revelation.

He went on to claim that after exhausting the allocated political funds envelope, Sonko allegedly requested additional funding. However, critical questions remain unanswered: Was this request ever approved? And perhaps most importantly, where did this sensitive information originate? In theory, only two individuals would have had access to such data: the President of the Republic and the Budget Minister.
