Orange Côte d’Ivoire and undp join forces to boost digital inclusion for youth

Major digital inclusion initiative launched in Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan — Côte d’Ivoire is taking a decisive step toward narrowing the digital divide, as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire formalized a groundbreaking partnership aimed at accelerating digital inclusion for young people, particularly young women, while fostering entrepreneurship across the country.

Strategic collaboration to drive digital transformation

On May 21, 2026, representatives from both organizations signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Abidjan, signaling a shared commitment to advancing sustainable development through technology-driven solutions. The partnership seeks to bridge inequality by equipping youth with essential digital skills, supporting startups, and expanding digital access to underserved rural and vulnerable communities.

The collaboration will leverage the Orange Digital Center as a key hub for digital empowerment, offering training programs, mentorship, and resources to aspiring entrepreneurs. Together, the partners aim to create tangible opportunities in the digital economy, aligning their efforts with Côte d’Ivoire’s National Development Plan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Empowering youth through innovation and opportunity

Blerta Cela, UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the transformative potential of this initiative, stating, « This partnership marks a turning point in our collective effort to build a more inclusive and equitable digital future for Côte d’Ivoire. By harnessing the strengths of the private sector and international cooperation, we are paving the way for sustainable growth and innovation. »

Mamadou Bamba, CEO of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, underscored his company’s dedication to youth empowerment, noting, « Through this partnership, we are committed to unlocking new opportunities for young people and vulnerable populations, ensuring they can thrive in Côte d’Ivoire’s growing digital economy. »

Vision for a digital future

The agreement outlines a roadmap for rolling out digital literacy programs, incubating startup ecosystems, and scaling digital initiatives to reach remote and marginalized communities. By prioritizing young women and rural populations, the initiative aims to reduce disparities and position Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
