Mauritanian president honors moroccan military delegation for strong defense ties

In a significant diplomatic and military engagement, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a high-level visit to Mauritania on Tuesday. The visit, marked by cordial exchanges and strategic discussions, began with a formal audience with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott. The meeting was also attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar.

During the visit, General Berrid paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Defense, where he was received by the Mauritanian Defense Minister, Hanana Ould Sidi. In a gesture of strong bilateral relations, the Defense Minister presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, an award bestowed by the President of the Republic.

Later in the day, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. The discussions centered on deepening military cooperation between the two nations, with both sides underscoring the tangible progress achieved through their strategic partnership. Officials highlighted the successful outcomes of joint initiatives, describing the collaboration as a model of effective defense diplomacy in the region.
