This individual, known by the aliases Oumar Kéréna, Farouk, and Housseini Mawdo, was killed during a drone strike conducted on June 3 in Mougnan, a locality approximately forty kilometers from Djenné in the central part of the country.

Malian authorities have identified him as a former member of the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), who progressively rose to become an influential leader within various jihadist factions operating across Mali and the wider Sahelian region, impacting governance Africa.
