High-level meeting strengthens Algeria-Niger bilateral ties in Niamey
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Algeria’s Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, was welcomed Wednesday in Niamey by Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani. The meeting centered on reinforcing the deep-rooted cooperation and solidarity between the two nations.
The encounter provided a platform to assess the progress of previously agreed-upon initiatives and to explore new avenues for collaboration. Key discussions revolved around the outcomes of President Tiani’s official visit to Algeria in February, where he held talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties across multiple sectors.
The talks also highlighted the implementation status of projects outlined during the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint High Commission held in Niamey last March. These projects span critical areas such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, education, digital transformation, and transportation, reflecting the strategic priorities of both governments.
a model of south-south cooperation
President Tiani expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s unwavering support, particularly in the rapid completion of the solidarity power plant—a landmark project symbolizing the strong bonds between the two countries. He emphasized the exceptional progress in bilateral cooperation, calling it a shining example of South-South collaboration. Both leaders underscored their shared determination to elevate their partnership to new heights, ensuring it serves the economic and developmental aspirations of their peoples.
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to continuing its support for Niger, especially in priority sectors. He noted that the cooperation framework has entered a new phase of effective implementation, driven by the strong political will of both leaderships. The meeting also addressed the need to accelerate the execution of commercial and economic programs to bolster regional integration and economic growth.
Regional stability and security were also high on the agenda. Both parties stressed the importance of ongoing bilateral consultations to address shared challenges and contribute to lasting peace and development in the region.
