Gabon’s new US envoy launches economic and security push in Washington
Baudelaire Ndong Ella has officially begun his role as Gabon’s ambassador to the United States, presenting his credentials to President Donald Trump at the White House. The Gabonese diplomat is set to prioritize economic diplomacy as he works to deepen ties between Libreville and Washington.
Economic partnership in the spotlight
Ndong Ella’s mission will focus on strengthening Gabon’s economic engagement with the US. Key sectors include hydrocarbons, mining, infrastructure, transport, tourism, energy, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence. His role will involve facilitating trade and investment by connecting American businesses with opportunities in Gabon while supporting those looking to expand operations in the country.
Security cooperation at the forefront
The new ambassador will also advance maritime security and combat transnational crime in the Gulf of Guinea, areas critical to both nations. This aligns with Gabon’s broader strategy to reinforce regional stability and collaboration with US security partners.
Building on high-level diplomacy
Ndong Ella’s appointment follows a period of intensified engagement between Gabon and the US. In July 2025, Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met with Trump to discuss economic partnerships, mineral resources, and Gulf of Guinea security. A year later, in June 2026, Gabon hosted a US delegation led by Christian Ehrhardt to further economic cooperation and Gabon’s reintegration into the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Sovereignty and international law as guiding principles
The ambassador’s approach will emphasize mutual respect for sovereignty and adherence to international law in all bilateral engagements. His goal is to sustain the momentum of high-level exchanges while advancing shared interests between Gabon and the US.
