Chad advances digital transformation strategy for technical education

Chad’s Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training recently hosted a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena. The event centered on validating a groundbreaking diagnostic report that will shape the future of digital transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country.

Attended by key stakeholders from the sector, the workshop aimed to review, enrich, and officially endorse a comprehensive analysis document. This report will serve as the foundation for Chad’s upcoming National Strategy for Digital Transformation of TVET, aligning education with the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.

The initiative is part of the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation of TVET Systems, supported by major continental bodies including UNESCO, the African Union, and the African Development Bank. The pre-strategy assessment engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers (TVTCs) and related institutions. Data was collected through both field missions and digital surveys, covering all academic districts in Chad.

Key challenges and opportunities highlighted

Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, opened the session on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education. He emphasized that digital transformation is no longer optional but a strategic necessity to prepare TVET systems for technological shifts and emerging professions.

The diagnostic report, he noted, reveals significant progress in some areas but also underscores critical gaps. These include governance inefficiencies, inadequate digital infrastructure, poor connectivity, unreliable power supply, insufficient trainer qualifications, and limited integration of digital skills into curricula. Dr. Gabriel urged participants to contribute constructively to refine the document into a practical, inclusive, and nationally relevant strategy.

Roadmap to a modernized TVET system

Once validated, the report will guide the development of Chad’s National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan for 2026–2030. The goal is to build a modern, high-performing technical education system that meets labor market demands and fosters youth employability.

The strategy envisions leveraging digital tools to enhance teaching quality, expand access to training, and strengthen institutional capacity—positioning Chad as a leader in vocational education innovation in the Sahel.
