Chad advances digital transformation in technical education sector

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training convened a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena on July 10, 2026, to validate ground-level assessment findings. This gathering, focused on the upcoming National Strategy for Digital Transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), brought together key stakeholders to refine and approve a foundational document that will guide the country’s digital modernization of vocational training.

This initiative aligns with the Pan-African TVET Digital Transformation Initiative, backed by UNESCO, the International Organisation of La Francophonie, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. The pre-strategy study engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers and supporting institutions. Through extensive field missions and digital surveys spanning all national academies, the assessment mapped out the current state of digital readiness across Chad’s vocational education landscape.

Addressing the workshop on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, emphasized that digital transformation has become a strategic priority. He noted the government’s commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for modernizing TVET systems to meet evolving technological demands and emerging job markets. The analysis, he explained, reveals both progress and significant hurdles—including governance gaps, inadequate digital infrastructure, connectivity issues, unreliable power supply, trainer upskilling needs, and the integration of digital competencies into curricula.

Dr. Gabriel urged participants to contribute actively to refine the document, ensuring the final strategy is pragmatic, inclusive, and responsive to Chad’s unique challenges. Once validated, the report will serve as the blueprint for the 2026-2030 National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan. The overarching goal? To establish a modern, efficient, and employable-ready vocational training system that aligns with labor market demands.
