Boko Haram’s resurgence threatens stability in Lake Chad region
Chad’s President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, made a firm declaration following the latest violent incursion: “We will intensify our efforts with renewed vigor until we completely eliminate this menace,” he stated in a May 5 Facebook post. This pledge came in response to a brutal assault carried out by an affiliate of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram on a military outpost in Barka Tolorom, situated on the Chadian side of Lake Chad. The ambush resulted in the tragic loss of 24 soldiers.
