Romuald Wadagni was officially sworn in as the new President of the Republic of Bénin on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
In a dignified ceremony held at the Palais de la République (La Marina), the handover took place without fanfare. The outgoing President Patrice Talon accompanied his successor Romuald Wadagni to the vehicle, symbolizing a peaceful transition of power.
Before the swearing-in, Patrice Talon and Romuald Wadagni held a private meeting. The official ceremony then proceeded with Wadagni taking the oath before the Constitutional Court, witnessed by key political figures from Bénin and representatives from over a dozen foreign delegations.
The newly sworn-in President Romuald Wadagni pledged to uphold and defend the Constitution and accepted the legal consequences of any perjury. His inauguration marked the conclusion of Patrice Talon’s tenure, which had begun years earlier.
