The National Police Academy in Porto-Novo hosted an official launch ceremony on May 14, 2026, for preparatory training sessions leading to the Brevet d’Études Supérieures de Sécurité (BESS), the Diplôme d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité (DEMES), and the Diplôme Spécial d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité.

Strengthening security leadership through elite training

Under the distinguished patronage of Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou, Director General of the Republican Police, the ceremony brought together high-ranking military and administrative officials, top police executives, and leading academics.

The Director of the National Police Academy, Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, outlined the curriculum’s goals, emphasizing the need to equip participants with forward-thinking insights into national, subregional, and international security challenges. He highlighted the caliber of instructors and the comprehensive training modules designed to foster expertise in police strategy, human and operational resource management, command leadership, and both domestic and cross-border security operations. “This session unites seasoned national and international trainers, supported by a dedicated teaching team committed to your success. The curriculum will delve into critical areas such as strategic policing, crisis management, and leadership development,” he explained.

Rigorous training to shape future security leaders

Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou stressed the importance of these continuous education programs, framing them as a pathway to enhance professional competencies and cultivate the leadership qualities essential for senior security roles. He urged participants to approach the training with unwavering discipline, dedication, and a spirit of excellence, preparing them for the responsibilities they will soon shoulder.

The event concluded with an inaugural lecture by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Parakou, exploring the theme: “Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Security Challenges.”

Modernizing security institutions for contemporary threats

By launching these advanced training programs, the National Police Academy aims to elevate the professionalism of the Republican Police and cultivate a cadre of security experts capable of addressing today’s evolving threats. This initiative reflects the Beninese authorities’ broader strategy to modernize the nation’s core security institutions and strengthen its governance frameworks.
