Bénin civil servants get salary and career boost as government clears backlogs
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, led by Romuald Wadagni, has launched a major operation to unlock career advancements and salary arrears for state employees. This move signals the government’s commitment to worker well-being.
This eagerly awaited decision is bringing smiles back to Bénin’s civil servants. In a note published on June 5, 2026, the Deputy Secretary General of the Finance Ministry, Madame Léa Estelle Honfo Akpovo, announced the start of an operation to permanently resolve advancement delays in the public service.
The operation runs throughout June 2026. It covers all advancements that were due to take effect no later than December 31, 2026, or earlier years.
Why this matters for civil servants
Thanks to this initiative by Romuald Wadagni’s team, the state will address workers’ situations in two ways:
- Update careers: All stalled files will be signed so that every employee receives the grade or step they deserve.
- Pay owed money: Salary increases and arrears related to these advancements will be disbursed to beneficiaries.
To carry out this work, the government is using a new modern software system: Sigrhp (Integrated Human Resources and Payroll Management System). This tool enables faster, fairer, and more transparent processing of files.
By acting this way, Minister Romuald Wadagni demonstrates that modernising the state does not come at the expense of workers, but rather offers them greater financial security.
No time to waste
The government wants to move quickly and efficiently. That is why heads of all ministries and institutions are asked to immediately gather the files of affected employees.
They must promptly send the list of civil servants eligible for advancement (for 2026 and prior years) to the Directorate General of the Public Service.
This demand for responsiveness from the ministry proves the authorities’ determination to settle state employees’ issues once and for all, ensuring everyone receives the fruits of their labour.
