As Senegal prepares to host the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has positioned the event as more than a sporting spectacle. Speaking during the annual general competition awards ceremony, he called on the nation’s top-performing students to use their skills for the greater good of the country.
The theme of this year’s ceremony—“Senegal at the dawn of the Youth Olympic Games: reforging the meaning of the common good through Olympic values”—guided his address to the gathered students and educators.

President Faye emphasized that the success of Dakar 2026 extends far beyond podium finishes and medal counts. He described the games as a historic responsibility for both Senegal and Africa, noting that the nation will become the first African country to host an Olympic event.

Addressing the award recipients, the President underlined the vital role education plays in shaping the Senegal of tomorrow. “Today, the Republic honors your achievements. Tomorrow, it will call on you to serve.”
