Allegations of financial irregularities

In a statement released on August 25, 2026, the Kiiraay Party condemned the management of special funds allocated for peace in Casamance. The party alleges that Ousmane Sonko, while serving as Prime Minister, authorized expenditures totaling 3.7 billion FCFA from the ‘Jamm for Peace in Casamance’ account without providing sufficient explanations for their use.

The funds were reportedly allocated for initiatives aimed at fostering peace in the Casamance region. However, the party claims that purchases of vehicles and renovations of administrative buildings were financed through these funds—expenditures it argues are unrelated to the account’s stated purpose.

Transparency concerns under scrutiny

The accusations highlight growing concerns about the consistency of transparency measures in public fund management. The Kiiraay Party emphasized that financial accountability should apply equally to all public officials, stating that ‘transparency should not be applied selectively.’

Ousmane Sonko has yet to respond to these allegations. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Council has already ruled against a law passed by the National Assembly, led by the PASTEF party, aimed at regulating the use of special funds—a decision that further intensifies the debate over financial governance in Senegal.
