Moroccan authorities have activated comprehensive security protocols to prevent any illegal border crossings into Ceuta and Melilla, targeting individuals involved in a planned mass attempt scheduled for August 15. This follows recent social media posts and anonymous messages calling for such an operation.

In a press briefing, Interior Ministry spokesperson Rachid El Khalfi confirmed that security forces have arrested several individuals suspected of inciting these actions. The detainees are currently undergoing legal proceedings under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. The ministry warned that such calls pose serious threats to public safety and constitute criminal offenses under Moroccan law, with both participants and organizers facing prosecution.

Continuous and Unrestricted Surveillance

The Interior Ministry emphasized that security operations, coordinated by the National Security Directorate (DGSN), extend beyond a specific timeframe and include permanent surveillance in areas adjacent to Ceuta and Melilla’s border crossings. This system is continuously reinforced and adapted based on evolving risks and field developments.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid misleading information that could endanger lives, reaffirming that efforts to combat irregular migration strictly adhere to legal frameworks.

Call for Shared Responsibility on Unaccompanied Minors

The official statement underscored that addressing irregular migration and human trafficking requires a shared responsibility approach, not the burden of a single party.

In this context, Morocco called on Spanish authorities to expedite the repatriation of unaccompanied minors currently in Ceuta to their families in Morocco. The Interior Ministry stressed the importance of overcoming administrative and judicial hurdles to ensure the minors’ best interests are prioritized.

Rabat also highlighted the effectiveness of the immediate return mechanism, citing its proven results in past border interventions.

The ministry reassured that Moroccan authorities will continue to uphold public order and safety with firmness and responsibility, maintaining high operational readiness and constant coordination in full compliance with the law.
