Mauritania seeks Gabon’s backing for OIF leadership bid

Diplomatic ties between Mauritania and Gabon have reached new heights following a high-level meeting in Libreville. The encounter, held yesterday, brought together Gabonese leader Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and a Mauritanian delegation led by Minister Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf. The special envoy carried a formal message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.

The Mauritanian delegation emphasized the enduring foundations of this partnership—rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and ongoing dialogue on shared continental challenges. During the discussions, Minister Laghdaf officially presented Mauritania’s candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). The bid, championed by Dr. Koumba Ba, outlines a strategic vision centered on three pillars: coherence, balance, and tangible utility for member states.
