Ligue 1: Nantes sanctioned with empty stadium after fan disturbances vs Toulouse

The disciplinary committee of France’s professional football league has confirmed the 0-0 draw between Nantes and Toulouse, while imposing further sanctions on the Canaries after events disrupted the final matchday fixture.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) disciplinary committee has officially validated the 0-0 score between FC Nantes and Toulouse FC from the final matchday of Ligue 1, following fan disturbances that led to the definitive interruption of the fixture. The decision, confirmed on May 27, also includes sanctions against the Nantes-based club.

“After reviewing the investigation report, the committee has decided to officially confirm the score achieved on the pitch at the moment of definitive interruption (0-0),” the LFP stated in an official release. “Additionally, the committee has imposed the following sanctions: one match behind closed doors at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by the closure of the Loire stand for two further fixtures.”

On May 17, during the 34th matchday, Nantes’ fixture against Toulouse was interrupted after flares were thrown onto the pitch and supporters invaded the Loire stand. Following intervention by the riot police (CRS), the fans returned to their section. Referee Stéphanie Frappart then announced the definitive interruption of the match “on prefectural order for safety reasons.” With their relegation to Ligue 2 confirmed, FC Nantes will play their first home match in the second tier without supporters.
