Gabon learns from Côte d’Ivoire’s development model during official visit

During an official visit to Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema conducted a comprehensive tour of several key infrastructure sites in Abidjan on August 6, 2026. The purpose of this field visit was to closely examine Côte d’Ivoire’s achievements in diplomacy, industry, and urban development, with the goal of adapting these successful approaches to Gabon’s own structural projects.

The Gabonese head of state first visited the construction site designated for the future Gabonese ambassador’s residence and housing for diplomatic staff. This inspection revealed that the project had stalled, prompting President Oligui Nguema to order the demolition of the existing structures and the launch of a new initiative aligned with his development vision.

Industrial cooperation takes center stage

The presidential delegation then proceeded to SHIBA, a company specializing in the production of paper kraft bags and packaging. President Oligui Nguema toured the facility’s production lines and engaged in discussions with company leaders about potential industrial cooperation opportunities between Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon.

Urban planning and social management in large-scale projects

The visit continued with a stop at the iconic fourth bridge of Abidjan, followed by a tour of relocation sites for populations displaced by major infrastructure works. This segment of the tour highlighted the strategies employed by Ivorian authorities to balance infrastructure development with the needs of affected communities.

Following the day’s itinerary, President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed his commitment to drawing inspiration from successful African experiences to drive Gabon’s ongoing development projects.
