Diomaye président coalition slams ousmane sonko’s remarks and demands respect for institutions
The Diomaye Président coalition has strongly criticized a recent speech delivered by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Coalition leaders condemned what they described as disrespectful comments targeting the Head of State, arguing that such remarks undermine the integrity of institutional responsibility.
Unacceptable remarks in a democratic framework
According to Bassirou Dieng, a prominent member of the coalition, statements made by Ousmane Sonko violate fundamental principles of a rule of law and democratic governance. « In a functioning democracy or republic, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly president to make disrespectful remarks about the Head of State, » he emphasized during a local radio interview.
Bassirou Dieng highlighted the widespread condemnation of Sonko’s statements across social media and news outlets. « Since his remarks in Mbacké yesterday, reactions have been swift and unanimous. Almost everyone agrees that his words were scandalous and inappropriate, » he noted, urging Sonko to exercise restraint.
Firm stance against institutional disrespect
The Diomaye Président coalition has warned that it will no longer tolerate what it views as repeated attacks on state institutions. « We will respond decisively, » Bassirou Dieng stated. « From now on, such disrespectful remarks—whether directed at the President of the Republic or other state authorities—will not go unchallenged. »
This reaction follows Ousmane Sonko‘s public statements in Mbacké, which have reignited political debates and drawn sharp criticism from the ruling majority.
