Côte d’Ivoire launches 2026-2027 coffee-cocoa season with new farmgate prices
Abidjan — The official launch of the 2026-2027 coffee and cocoa season takes place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during the 10th edition of the National Cocoa and Chocolate Days (JNCC). The event will be held at the Abidjan Exhibition Park, where the new farmgate prices for the season will be unveiled.
Representing President Alassane Ouattara, Vice-President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné will announce the prices. This follows a record-high farmgate price of 2,800 FCFA per kilogram set for the main 2025-2026 season (October 2025 to February 2026). However, prices were adjusted downward to 1,200 FCFA per kilogram for the intermediate season (March to August 2026) due to global cocoa market fluctuations.
Côte d’Ivoire remains the world’s top cocoa producer
Côte d’Ivoire continues to lead global cocoa production, accounting for roughly 40% of worldwide supply. The 2025-2026 season saw domestic output reach nearly 2.2 million tonnes, though challenges such as export volatility and a temporary slowdown in global demand prompted the government to purchase around 123,000 tonnes of residual beans to stabilize the market.
Looking ahead to 2026-2027, production forecasts suggest a potential decline to approximately 1.8 million tonnes due to climate-related pressures and aging cocoa orchards. These factors highlight the need for strategic interventions to sustain the sector’s growth.
