West Africa’s Most Digitally Advanced Nation

The Côte d’Ivoire has solidified its position as the most digitally advanced nation in West Africa, according to the latest edition of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Development Index.

This year’s IDI ranking sees the country leapfrog several other regional players, with a score of 72 points, placing it firmly at number 15 on the continent.

Significant Gains in Digital Adoption

The Côte d’Ivoire has made significant strides in increasing its digital footprint over the past year, marking a notable improvement from a score of 69.5 points in 2025 to 72 this year.

According to the ITU, the country’s progress can be attributed to sustained investments in infrastructure and widespread adoption by the market.

The Role of Digital Infrastructure

The Côte d’Ivoire’s strong digital economy is built on a solid foundation of reliable infrastructure, with 98% of the population covered by 3G networks and 90% by 4G/LTE.

Mobile data prices remain competitive, with only 1.8% of the country’s national income going towards mobile services per capita – an indicator of high affordability.

Digital Inclusion on the Rise

The number of households owning a mobile phone has increased to 73.1%, while 70.8% of individuals actively use the internet, and 58.7% have access to broadband at home.

Mobile subscriptions for high-speed data have risen significantly, with 84.1 per 100 inhabitants, suggesting substantial potential for further growth.
