Cameroun: government confirms President Biya’s good health and stable rule

Amid swirling speculations about his health and whereabouts, Cameroonian authorities have moved swiftly to dispel rumors surrounding President Paul Biya. The government spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi, who also serves as Minister of Communication, addressed these concerns publicly, affirming that the Head of State remains in good health and fully in control.

The President has been staying in Switzerland for over 56 days, sparking debates about a potential power vacuum. However, Sadi firmly dismissed such claims, stating, «The president is alive, has not resigned, and will return to Cameroon soon. At this stage, there is no question of power absence.» While he did not specify an exact return date, he reassured the public that institutions are functioning normally and key officials continue their duties without interruption.

René Emmanuel Sadi also acknowledged that President Biya recently underwent a medical procedure in Geneva, clarifying that he was not hospitalized. «He underwent an intervention some time ago. He is in Geneva, not in a hospital,» the spokesperson explained. The government’s stance remains that the Constitutional Council—the only body authorized to declare a power gap—has not made any such determination.

With public scrutiny intensifying, officials emphasize that the nation’s leadership remains stable and that the President’s temporary absence does not constitute a crisis. The government’s response underscores its commitment to transparency while navigating these sensitive discussions.
