A new chapter in economic collaboration between Bénin and the World Bank Group was inaugurated in Cotonou on July 17, as officials unveiled a groundbreaking Country Partnership Framework (CPF) spanning 2026 to 2036. This initiative aims to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth across the West African nation.
The launch ceremony drew top officials from the Bénin government, international diplomats stationed in the country, and key development partners, all gathered to witness the historic agreement.
At its core, the CPF 2026-2036 is structured around three pivotal pillars: enhancing human capital through improved nutrition, healthcare, and skills training; expanding access to critical infrastructure; and accelerating private-sector-led economic transformation. According to an official statement, the framework also embeds resilience-building initiatives to strengthen national stability and social cohesion across Bénin.
Anna Bjerde, World Bank Group Managing Director of Operations, praised the ambitious vision championed by Bénin’s President Romuald Wadagni and his administration. She noted the timing aligns with a pivotal moment for the country—marked by renewed political momentum and the strategic Alafia Bénin 2060 roadmap. Bjerde emphasized that this partnership will translate into tangible outcomes for the youth and entrepreneurs, highlighting that investments in human capital and productive infrastructure are vital for sustainable job creation and long-term growth.
She further reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Bénin’s efforts to bolster national economic competitiveness and elevate living standards across the population.
Speaking on behalf of the Bénin government, Aristide Medenou, Minister of Economy, Finance, and Cooperation, underscored that the new CPF perfectly complements national priorities—particularly in agriculture, private-sector expansion, and youth employment.
The government views the CPF 2026-2036 as a catalyst for accelerating socio-economic transformation, deepening resilience, and unlocking opportunities for future generations.
