Banda Kani calls Elimbi Lobe a small canton politician unfit for national leadership

In an interview on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the national president of the New Popular Movement (NMP) accused the Sunday debater on Info TV of legendary inconsistency.

Cameroonian politician Banda Kani is furious with tribal agitator Elimbi Lobe. During an interview broadcast on his page Tuesday, the NMP leader expressed his exasperation, particularly after Lobe referred to nationalist Ernest Ouandié as a “bandit” on Info TV, a green-screen channel broadcasting from Yaoundé, Cameroon.

“By calling Ouandié a bandit, Elimbi Lobe disgraced himself,” stated pan-Africanist Banda Kani. He believes that Lobe will never achieve the stature of a strong politician. “He has reduced himself to a worthless figure. He has become a political actor who will never have national influence in this country. He has shrunk to a small-time canton politician, chasing a strategy to become a deputy,” Kani added.

When he was in the SDF, could he make such statements?

Drawing on history, Banda Kani condemned Elimbi Lobe’s inconsistency, noting how Lobe’s rhetoric changed after leaving the Social Democratic Front (SDF). “He is now in an electoral strategy. Read his history. Look at his own words in 2011 when he was in the SDF. He praised national integration. He even highlighted the role of the Bamiléké community in nation-building, and said his best friend was a Bamiléké to whom he wanted to give his son’s name,” Kani continued.

“In 2015, he denounced tribalism. When he was in the SDF, could he utter such words? The party would have stopped him. You are dealing with a small politician who believes that if he gets elected as a deputy, his political career will peak,” Banda Kani added.
