Baku, June 23

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Sahibé Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Medjlis, held discussions with Mohamed Ghayate, the Vice-President of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco. The meeting took place during Mr. Ghayate’s visit to Azerbaijan, where he was attending the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.

During their exchange, both parliamentary leaders expressed profound satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Morocco. They underscored that these ties, built upon a foundation of mutual respect, have seen successful growth, particularly within the political sphere. The discussion also highlighted the effective collaboration between the two nations within various international organizations, emphasizing their consistent mutual support and solidarity across global platforms.

The critical role of inter-parliamentary cooperation in deepening the overall bilateral relationship was a central theme. Speaker Gafarova fondly recalled her official visit to Morocco and her productive encounters with Moroccan counterparts at various international forums, noting how these interactions significantly contribute to strengthening bonds. It was further observed that the active friendship groups within both legislative bodies serve as vital conduits for fostering these relations. The recent Memorandum of Understanding signed this year between the two parliaments was also cited as opening promising avenues for further enhancing their collaboration.

Both parties commended the robust cooperation between their respective parliaments within international parliamentary bodies, notably the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). It was highlighted that Morocco maintains a strong presence at the Network’s conferences, underscoring the significant importance it places on the organization’s work and objectives.
