The session, held in Laayoune at the residence of Mohamed Lemine Nafa, a member of the movement’s Permanent Political Commission, was arranged at the request of the US diplomatic mission and brought together key leaders and cadres of Sahrawis for Peace.

During the meeting, representatives of the movement outlined their organizational milestones over the past six years and detailed their vision for resolving the conflict. They also fielded questions from the US delegation regarding the current state of the Western Sahara dossier.

The advocates emphasized the urgent need to include Sahrawis for Peace in the UN-sponsored negotiation process, arguing that the movement represents a legitimate framework uniting Sahrawi voices committed to a peaceful political outcome. They stressed that any sustainable negotiation process must incorporate all representatives and stakeholders from Sahrawi society.

The US political counselor conveyed Washington’s strong commitment to ending the deadlock in the region. He highlighted that the United States opposes the continuation of the status quo and reiterated support for initiatives aimed at revitalizing the political process toward a definitive solution.

The American diplomat praised the work of Sahrawis for Peace, describing it as an active and engaged Sahrawi voice in pursuit of negotiated solutions. He underscored that the US places particular importance on backing Sahrawi voices that advocate for an agreement ensuring regional stability and security, helping to unlock diplomatic pathways and overcome years of confrontational dynamics that have hindered previous resolution efforts.

This meeting follows a series of engagements between the US and Sahrawis for Peace, including a recent delegation visit to New York where the movement met with the US, French, and UK permanent representatives to the UN.

The gathering takes place ahead of the UN Security Council session reviewing the implementation of Resolution 2797, which has garnered broad international consensus in favor of promoting a political and peaceful solution to the Western Sahara question.
