A delegation from the UNESCO Mali Office, led by its Acting Head and Representative, Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, attended the official launch ceremony of the 32nd national reforestation campaign in Bamako on Saturday, July 26, 2026. Held at the Palais des Pionniers, the event was presided over by General of Division Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transition President and Head of State.

Key stakeholders joined the ceremony, including government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and women’s and youth associations. The event also mobilized numerous actors committed to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and combating climate change impacts.

The campaign, themed “Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener and more resilient Mali”, aligns with national efforts to restore ecosystems, combat desertification, and preserve natural resources. It emphasizes citizen mobilization, particularly among youth, as a critical driver of ecological transition. The initiative aims to plant 21 million trees nationwide during the rainy season, contributing to building a greener and more resilient Mali.

By participating in this campaign, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local actor capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
