Kpomé, 3 August 2026 — In a country where youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge, authorities in Togo are taking a hands-on approach to turn training recipients into thriving rural entrepreneurs. In Kpomé, within the Maritime region, fifty young adults have just taken a decisive step forward by receiving the tools needed to launch their agricultural and livestock ventures immediately.
This equipment handover, held on 20 July under the leadership of Dotsè Medjina, Secretary General of the Maritime Regional Governorship, represents the culmination of a three-month vocational training program focused on high-potential agropastoral trades.
From training to action: Immediate equipment delivery
One of the biggest hurdles in employment programs is often what comes after training. Many young people gain skills but lack the capital to start their own businesses. In Kpomé, this pattern was flipped. After completing their training, participants received a complete startup kit featuring motorized tillers, water pumps, sprayers, seeds, fertilizers, electronic scales, fencing rolls, irrigation and water storage equipment, wheelbarrows, and construction materials.
The goal is simple: enable new producers to launch their operations right away without waiting for additional funding.
Agropastoral sector as a new engine for rural employment
The fifty beneficiaries were trained in several sectors identified as key to rural development, including market gardening, poultry farming, small ruminant rearing, and pig production.
By providing these young entrepreneurs with the right tools, public authorities aim to boost their financial independence while strengthening local production and energizing rural economies.
Strategic investment with accountability at its core
During the ceremony, Dotsè Medjina underscored the responsibility that comes with this equipment. He urged participants to use the tools with care to ensure the profitability and long-term success of their ventures. He also called on them to fully embrace their role as drivers of economic progress within their communities.
National strategy for Togo’s food sovereignty
This initiative is part of the “Vocational training and professional insertion support” project, launched in 2025 by the National Employment Agency (ANPE) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources, and Food Sovereignty.
Through this program, Togo is moving beyond theoretical training to build an employment policy centered on income-generating activities. The focus on the agropastoral sector reflects this shift, with the ambition to cultivate a new generation of young producers who can translate their skills into viable businesses and contribute sustainably to the country’s food sovereignty.
