The RHDP’s Ascendancy

The Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) was initially envisioned as a grand coalition, uniting the political heirs of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who had long been divided by disputes over his legacy. What began as a strategic alliance between former rivals Alassane Ouattara and Henri Konan Bédié, forged to confront a common adversary, Laurent Gbagbo, has profoundly reshaped Ivorian politics. Over approximately two decades, the RHDP has transitioned from an opposition movement to the pinnacle of power, firmly establishing itself as the dominant force within Côte d’Ivoire’s political landscape.
