Rabat hosts Morocco-India economic forum to boost trade ties
Rabat became the stage for the Morocco-India Economic Forum 2026, an initiative spearheaded by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (CCISRSK), in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Morocco and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The high-level event brought together a 21-member Indian delegation of top executives from key sectors alongside Moroccan business leaders. The primary focus was exploring avenues for sustainable partnerships and mutually beneficial investments between the two nations.
Strengthening economic bonds between Morocco and India
Addressing the gathering, Hassan Sakhi, President of CCISRSK, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Morocco and India that has evolved into a robust, diversified, and expanding economic partnership.
He emphasized that high-level ministerial initiatives and signed memorandums of understanding in strategic sectors underscore the strong political ties between the two countries. Sakhi further noted that the presence of Indian business leaders from sectors such as automotive, agriculture, IT, healthcare, and energy reflects the growing interest of Indian investors in the Moroccan market.
He pointed out that bilateral trade volumes already reflect this momentum, adding that Morocco is keen to further enhance this dynamic, especially given India’s status as a premier trade partner with significant technological and industrial expertise.
Opportunities in renewable energy and digital technologies
Mohan Puri, head of the CII delegation, expressed confidence in building a strong partnership uniting India, Morocco, and Africa. He underscored Morocco’s vast potential and capabilities, highlighting numerous opportunities in sectors like renewable energy, green hydrogen, aviation, defense, and digital technologies.
Puri noted that Morocco provides an ideal platform for companies from both nations to implement projects and develop technologies. The forum featured a screening of an institutional video showcasing the economic strengths and investment opportunities in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, along with a documentary on the business climate and updates to Morocco’s investment charter.
A key highlight was the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at boosting trade exchanges, investments, and industrial partnerships between India and the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
The forum concluded with a networking session and B2B meetings between the two delegations, fostering closer ties and collaboration.
