Morocco has officially named its longest highway after former US President Donald Trump, marking a diplomatic milestone that underscores the North African kingdom’s strategic ties with Washington. The decision, announced by King Mohammed VI, designates the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway as the “Autoroute Donald J. Trump,” a 1,055-kilometer route connecting southern Morocco to the disputed Western Sahara region.

The announcement, made public through a letter from the monarch to Trump on July 2, celebrates the 2020 US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara—a move described by Mohammed VI as a “historic acknowledgment” that “will forever be etched in the hearts of Moroccans.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his gratitude, calling the dedication “an immense honor” and adding, “I can’t wait to drive the entire length of this magnificent highway someday—hopefully soon!” While Rabat has not confirmed the former president’s travel plans, the gesture highlights the enduring impact of his administration’s policy shift on Morocco-US relations.

The Tiznit-Dakhla corridor, now recognized as Africa’s longest road infrastructure, spans from the southern city of Tiznit to the coastal hub of Dakhla, traversing some of the kingdom’s most strategic and contested territories.
