Ivorian politics: Ahoua Don Mello unveils new sovereignist party

The former presidential candidate is converting his support movement into a formal political party, aiming to champion a sovereignist and alternative agenda for Côte d’Ivoire.

A significant milestone in Côte d’Ivoire’s political landscape was reached on July 11, 2026, in Abidjan. Supporters and members of Dr Ahoua Don Mello’s campaign team gathered to establish a new political formation, poised to engage in the nation’s democratic discourse.

The assembly, held in plenary session, adopted by overwhelming consensus a resolution to create a future political party. Dr Ahoua Don Mello was entrusted with leading the process toward its official establishment.

A communiqué released on social media the following day outlined key details of the meeting. Ipou Ludovic presided over the gathering, with Ahile Fernand, known as Léo Côte d’Ivoire, serving as session secretary. Brou Jean-Baptiste acted as rapporteur.

This decision followed extensive deliberations by a reflection commission, chaired by Me Sery Zokou and including prominent figures such as Kouamé Kouakou (OK), cabinet director, alongside Claudel Guiguy, Askène Cissé, Franck Stéphane Dedy, and Arsène Touho.

The commission’s final report, presented by Sery Sara Soko, deputy cabinet director, with support from Mathieu N’Guatta, chief of cabinet, Sara Dominique, Ami Traoré, and Danon Goubo Armel Fabrice (Atho Belé), underscored the urgency of formalizing the movement into a structured political entity.

By taking this step, Dr Ahoua Don Mello’s campaign team embarks on a transformation into a political organization positioned as a force for innovation, unity, and change. Its promoters emphasize core values including democracy, social justice, good governance, solidarity, meritocracy, and national sovereignty—all aimed at fostering development and the renewal of Côte d’Ivoire.

In his address, Dr Ahoua Don Mello expressed gratitude to participants for their trust, outlining the broad vision for the emerging political project. He issued a call to patriotic, progressive, democratic, and sovereignist forces to rally behind this initiative, striving to build « a more just, prosperous, united, and fully sovereign Côte d’Ivoire. »

The future leader also announced the immediate launch of preparatory work for the « Congress of Pioneers, » slated to serve as the party’s founding act. The date for this event will be announced in due course.

The gathering concluded on a note of fraternity, unity, and hope. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing this new political force with discipline and cohesion, dedicating it to the service of Côte d’Ivoire, Africa, and a multipolar world.
