In line with this vision, a seminar was held in Libreville last week, where high-level officials discussed the strategic importance of satellite-based connectivity for the country’s growth and security.

With 88% of the country covered by dense tropical forests, deploying fiber optic cables across the entire territory is a logistical challenge. To address this issue, the government is adopting a hybrid model that combines terrestrial networks with satellite solutions.

The ultimate goal is to ensure equal access to the internet in rural, maritime, and isolated areas, where traditional infrastructure may not be feasible. By leveraging space technology, the Gabonese government aims to bridge the digital divide and improve citizens’ daily lives.

Building a Spatial Ecosystem for Gabon

To achieve this ambitious goal, experts are working on several key areas, including regulatory frameworks, cybersecurity, data protection, and public administration needs. The seminar’s outcome will be a comprehensive strategy document presented to the head of state, paving the way for the creation of a thriving spatial ecosystem in Gabon.
