French National Day: A Celebration of Franco-Chadian Friendship in N’Djamena
Diplomatic leaders and local figures gathered in N’Djamena to honor the enduring partnership between France and Chad during this year’s French National Day festivities.
The French Embassy in Chad hosted a vibrant gathering at its residence in N’Djamena on the evening of July 14, 2026, to mark French National Day.
A diverse crowd of dignitaries, military officials, diplomats, and representatives from both public and private sectors filled the venue, joined by French expatriates and civil society leaders. The event radiated warmth and unity, underscoring the deep ties between the two nations.
Following the playing of both national anthems, Ambassador Éric Gérard delivered a heartfelt address. He reflected on the significance of July 14 for France, emphasizing the core values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that define the French Republic.
The ambassador also highlighted the historic bond between France and Chad, forged through decades of shared experiences. His words paid tribute to veterans in attendance, recognizing their contributions to the enduring relationship.
« This friendship is not static; it grows stronger every day. We must continue building connections rooted in mutual respect, trust, and honesty. We know how to speak frankly when needed, » he remarked.
Ambassador Gérard went on to praise the robust cooperation between the two countries, noting 39 active projects spanning water supply, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and youth initiatives. « The January 29 meeting between our heads of state in Paris laid the foundation for this renewed partnership, » he added.
The ambassador also pointed to the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi as a pivotal moment, where 49 nations, including Chad, convened at the highest levels to strengthen continental ties.
He reiterated France’s commitment to Chad’s development through the « Tchad Connexion 2030 » national development plan, a roadmap essential for the country’s progress.
The evening concluded on a high note, celebrating the unshakable bond between France and Chad.
