Fatimé Haram Acyl commends SONEMIC for driving technological progress in Chad mining
Following the presentation of the annual performance review and mandate of the Société nationale d’exploitation minière et de commercialisation (SONEMIC) this Monday, the Minister of Mines, Fatimé Haram Acyl, voiced her pride regarding the strategic direction and local innovations being implemented.
Domestic innovation as a point of national pride
The Minister expressed her deep impression with the technological strides made within the country. She noted that she did not expect to find a sophisticated software system developed entirely by Chadians. This digital tool facilitates the tracking of all mining permits—with 147 already registered—while providing a direct interface with both customs and tax departments. According to her, this advancement is a significant leap forward for transparency and accountability in the extractive industry.
A forward-thinking strategic roadmap
Fatimé Haram Acyl also highlighted that the ministry has initiated comprehensive mapping projects. These efforts aim to verify resource data across various provinces with high precision, thereby mitigating potential land-use conflicts. Furthermore, she revealed that negotiations are currently progressing with international partners. Specifically, discussions with the United Arab Emirates are focusing on water transformation projects and the development of an antimony refinery, all of which represent a commitment to the structural evolution of the national economy.
Leadership and unified communication for progress
To ensure continued success, the Minister emphasized the necessity of cohesive leadership. She stated that clear communication regarding ongoing achievements is essential, urging all stakeholders to share a singular vision and align their efforts with the policies established by the Head of State. This collective unity is seen as a prerequisite for transforming the mining and petroleum sectors into sustainable drivers of employment and development.
This yearly assessment marks a pivotal moment for SONEMIC. The combination of local ingenuity, resource mapping, and global alliances is setting the stage for a profound shift in the industry. Fatimé Haram Acyl concluded on an optimistic note, suggesting that there is ample opportunity for all contributors and that Tchad stands to benefit immensely from this shared momentum.
