Elliot Anderson could become the most expensive midfielder in history.

Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are reportedly closing in on an agreement for Elliot Anderson. The Englishman wants to join the Sky Blues, who may need to pay around €150 million to secure his arrival.

Manchester City are preparing to write a big cheque. The north-west England club are leading the race for Elliot Anderson and are close to an agreement with Nottingham Forest to finalise the transfer of the England international (11 caps). Although the Citizens’ last offer, worth nearly €140 million, was rejected by Forest, the parties are moving closer to the price set by Anderson’s club, believed to be around €150 million. This sale would significantly help Nottingham Forest, who finished 16th in the Premier League last season.

Manchester City hold a major advantage in this case: Anderson (23) has expressed his desire to join the Sky Blues. The transfer could become one of the most expensive in history, entering the top five, or even top three depending on the final amount. If the fee exceeds €140 million, Elliot Anderson will become the most expensive midfielder in football history and could break the Premier League record set by Liverpool for the purchase of Alexander Isak for €150 million.
