Just twelve hours after Burkina Faso activated its digital traffic enforcement system, Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana evaluated its performance at the Real-Time Video Monitoring Center in Ouagadougou. The system, launched at midnight on August 1, 2026, automatically detects road violations including speeding, red-light running, seatbelt non-compliance, and phone use behind the wheel. Accompanied by Zakaria Hebie, Director General of Transmissions and Informatics, the minister observed real-time data processing as the system sprang into action.

The initiative has already demonstrated its capability, with 1,099 violations recorded in the first half-day alone. Among the infractions logged were 234 cases of speeding, 189 red-light violations, 312 instances of seatbelt neglect, and 294 drivers caught using mobile devices while driving. Notably, five offenders have already settled their fines through the FASO ARZEKA digital payment platform, signaling early public acceptance of the system.

Minister Sana praised the technical teams for their seamless deployment, emphasizing that these results validate the government’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation for safer roads. “Upholding traffic regulations is the most effective way to prevent violations and save lives,” he stated, underscoring the broader public safety goals behind the initiative.
