Côte d’Ivoire: Laurent Gbagbo shifts party leadership duties to five key figures

Laurent Gbagbo, former President of Côte d’Ivoire and current head of the Parti des Peuples Africains-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), has announced the delegation of key presidential powers within the party to five prominent political figures.

This strategic move, outlined in an official PPA-CI communiqué, establishes a new governance structure aimed at fostering collective leadership and reinforcing party unity. The announcement follows an internal assessment of the party’s operational needs and long-term vision for political engagement in Côte d’Ivoire.

The revised leadership framework assigns specific responsibilities to each delegate. Mr. Assoa Adou has been designated as the first vice-president, responsible for upholding the party’s statutes and internal regulations across all levels. Mr. Hubert Oulaye takes on the role of second vice-president, overseeing party activities and presiding over Central Committee meetings.

Additionally, Mr. Dano Djédjé Sébastien has been appointed as president of the strategic and political council, with authority over the party’s general direction and operational supervision.

In a statement, Laurent Gbagbo emphasized the importance of shared leadership, stating, “This reallocation of duties reflects our commitment to a more collaborative approach, where responsibility is distributed to leverage the strengths of each leader. The strength of our party lies not in one individual, but in the collective effort of our members and leaders.”
