Following initial plans to delegate authority to a single figure, former President Laurent Gbagbo has instead named five high-ranking members of the PPA-CI to share new leadership responsibilities.

The restructuring aims to strengthen the party’s operations through a more collegial leadership model, as explained by Gbagbo, who emphasized shared responsibilities and unified action.

New leadership appointments

• Assoa Adou takes on the role of First Vice-President, overseeing strict adherence to party guidelines.
• Hubert Oulaye is appointed Second Vice-President, responsible for party operations and chairing central committee meetings.
• Emmanuel Ackah, former ambassador, becomes Third Vice-President, tasked with energizing the party’s grassroots activities.
• Justin Katinan Koné retains oversight of the party’s overall political strategy.
• Sébastien Dano Djédjé leads the newly established Strategic and Political Council, ensuring alignment with the party’s vision.

Analysts weigh in on the changes

Political analyst Abdourahmane Barry notes that while the appointments reflect a shift toward more collaborative governance, the core leadership remains firmly with Gbagbo. “The daily management of the party is now shared, but ultimate authority stays with the former head of state,” Barry stated. “This is not a radical overhaul of the PPA-CI’s structure.”
