Chad and Madagascar deepen diplomatic and economic ties

Strengthening Africa’s strategic partnerships through diaspora engagement

In a significant move to bolster ties between African nations, Madagascar’s head of state, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, completed a high-level visit to N’Djamena, Chad, where he engaged with Chadian officials and the Malagasy diaspora community. The visit underscored the pivotal role of expatriate expertise in driving national development and regional cooperation.

The delegation’s agenda prioritized two key objectives: deepening bilateral relations and leveraging the skills of Malagasy professionals living in Chad. A dedicated session with around twenty Malagasy expatriates highlighted their potential as a bridge between the two countries. « Our diaspora is a formidable asset for Madagascar. Their talents must be harnessed to advance our shared goals, » stated the Colonel, who also serves as President of the Refondation movement.

The visit extended beyond diplomatic pleasantries, focusing on tangible economic and professional exchanges. Discussions centered on facilitating the movement of skilled personnel and fostering knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance Madagascar’s footprint across Africa. Both sides emphasized the importance of intra-African collaboration as a catalyst for growth and innovation.

Celebrating Chad’s independence and charting a shared future

The program included participation in Chad’s 66th Independence Day celebrations, where Colonel Randrianirina joined regional leaders, including Marshal Idriss Mahamat, President of Chad, and General Horta N’Tam, President of Guinea-Bissau. The event provided a platform to reaffirm commitments to continental solidarity and mutual progress.

During the festivities, the Malagasy leader highlighted the opportunity to « reinforce African cooperation, » noting Chad’s openness to reciprocate with a state visit to Madagascar. Such exchanges, he argued, could unlock new avenues for collaboration, from trade to education and beyond. The proposed reciprocal visit is seen as a critical step toward solidifying a partnership built on trust and shared ambition.
