The escalating security challenges across the Sahel have prompted Chad and Burkina Faso to elevate their defense collaboration to a new level. Following high-level discussions in Ouagadougou, both nations are laying the groundwork for a robust joint strategy to combat terrorism.
A senior delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, met with Burkina Faso’s Security Minister Mahamadou Sana the previous day. The talks centered on strengthening cross-border security measures, particularly in countering terrorist threats, as outlined in a joint statement released by N’Djamena.
Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Security Minister and a member of the delegation, described the meeting as a preparatory step ahead of a major joint commission aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation against terrorism. « This gathering reflects our shared commitment to leveraging our historical ties and operational experiences to develop security strategies that align with the realities on the ground, » he stated.
Highlighting the warm reception extended to the Chadian delegation, Chamir underscored the importance of translating this momentum into a lasting and mutually beneficial security partnership—one that respects the sovereignty of each nation. The joint statement confirmed that this new phase of collaboration would continue through scheduled bilateral cooperation meetings, including the upcoming joint commission tasked with refining defense collaboration between Chad and Burkina Faso.
