Chad and Algeria advance energy sector collaboration
On June 16, Hassan Adoum Younousmi, the Director General of Chad’s Downstream Petroleum Sector Regulatory Authority (ARSAT), held a significant meeting in Algiers. He was received by Mohamed Arkab, the Algerian Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, at the ministry’s headquarters. Key aides from both officials were also present, highlighting the importance of this high-level engagement.
This audience aimed to further solidify Algeria-Chad cooperation and review the progress of recently established bilateral agreements. Central to the discussions were critical aspects of the downstream petroleum sector, including the robust regulation of activities, the strategic development of energy infrastructure, refining capabilities, efficient storage solutions, and the comprehensive distribution of petroleum products. Enhancing industrial security, accelerating process digitalization, and improving sector governance were also prominent themes, underscoring a shared commitment to modernization and transparency within African politics and energy governance.
This latest meeting builds upon a pivotal cooperation protocol inked on April 23, 2026, in Algiers, between ARSAT and Algeria’s Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority (ARH). This foundational protocol is designed to foster deeper technical and institutional collaboration between the two regulatory bodies. Its objectives include facilitating the exchange of specialized knowledge, promoting best practices, and providing crucial support for strengthening national capacities in both nations.
Concluding their productive discussions, both nations unequivocally reaffirmed their dedication to reinforcing the fraternal ties between Algeria and Chad. They committed to actively promoting the sharing of expertise, recognizing its vital role in fostering sustainable development and advancing regional African integration.
“ARSAT reiterates its unwavering commitment to collaborate with its Algerian partners,” stated Hassan Adoum Younousmi, the Director General of ARSAT. “Our goal is to significantly advance Chad’s downstream petroleum sector and bolster our national competencies.”
