Can 2025 host decision under review by tas for Senegal

The African Football Confederation (CAF) recently stripped Senegal of hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), awarding the tournament to Morocco instead. This controversial decision followed chaotic scenes at the January 18 final in Rabat, where incidents marred the closing moments of the match.

On Monday, the Senegalese Football Federation officially received the CAF’s written decision and rationale—a critical step before pursuing legal recourse at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge the ruling, as reported by RMC Sport.

CAS ruling expected shortly with no further appeals

The CAF President has deferred to the CAS for a final verdict, though no specific timeline has been disclosed. Proceedings are anticipated to conclude within weeks, leaving both Senegal and Morocco with no option for further appeals once the decision is rendered.

Me Matthieu Reeb, the CAS Director General, emphasized the tribunal’s readiness to resolve the dispute efficiently. «The CAS is fully equipped to handle such disputes with highly trained, independent arbitrators,» he stated. «We recognize the urgency fans and teams feel for a resolution. Our priority is to expedite the process while ensuring all parties receive a fair hearing.»
