Camwater and UNHCR partner for sustainable water access in Minawao camp

Cameroon Water Utilities (Camwater) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a partnership agreement on 30 June 2026 in Yaoundé, aimed at sustainably improving access to drinking water for refugees and host communities, notably in the Far North region.

Camwater and UNHCR are strengthening their cooperation in support of vulnerable populations. The two institutions signed the partnership on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 in Yaoundé, with the goal of enhancing drinking water supply in the Minawao refugee camp area, located in the Far North region.

The agreement was signed by Camwater’s Director General, Dr Blaise Moussa, and the UNHCR Representative in Cameroon, Ms Yvette Muhimpundu. It is part of the ‘Alternative Solutions for Minawao Camp’ project, supported by the European Union, German Cooperation (GIZ), and UNHCR.

Under this agreement, Camwater will provide its expertise in the design, implementation, and monitoring of water supply infrastructure, while UNHCR will continue its efforts to protect refugees and strengthen their resilience, in collaboration with Cameroonian authorities.

Both institutions aim to improve the living conditions of refugees and host communities while addressing challenges related to demographic pressure and sustainable water resource management.
