The Social Democratic Front (SDF) leader Joshua Osih has called on the Cameroonian government to respect the electoral timeline, emphasizing that it is a matter of public right, not government discretion. Speaking at a press conference on July 23, Osih stressed the urgency of holding elections as scheduled, without delay.
“Elections must proceed on time—no extensions. The electoral calendar is not owned by the government; it belongs to the people. I urge all opposition factions to unite behind this demand,” Osih declared. His appeal has yet to elicit a response from other opposition figures.
The timing of Osih’s demand follows recent postponements of municipal and legislative elections. The government cited financial, logistical, and security constraints as reasons for the delays. A legislative bill was passed by the National Assembly, and a decree signed by President Paul Biya in June 2026 extended mandates until February 2027.
